About Michael Bateman
Michael was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW as a solicitor, proctor and attorney in 1971 upon graduating from Sydney University with an LLB. Michael completed his articles of Clerkship involving him in visiting the Supreme Court of NSW to instruct Counsel in matters under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1959 (C’th). Michael’s involvement with that Act continued to apply until 1976 with the arrival of the Family Law Act 1975. There were significant differences in the acts and in practice, but essentially human folly remains unchanged and is a constant in cases that Michael has been involved in. It presents Michael an irresistible parade of interest.
Appearing in Courts for over 50 years must mean that Michael enjoys what he is doing.
Michael attempts to a be good listener and to appreciate the importance of getting to the point in a way that clients can understand. Over his years of experience Michael has developed an expertise in explaining what is achievable and what is unlikely. Michael is acutely aware that expectations are important for clients and judges.
